artist/ensemble: Roberto Manes title: Phoenician Dreams catalogue number ASC CD33 duration 57 min. year 1994 price £ 10 improvised studio recording musicians: Roberto Manes - electric violin Davide Mantovani - bass Jonathan Gee - synthesizer, Rhodes piano Peter Lockett - world percussion Ingrid Laubrock - synthesizer Rory Gallagher - acoustic guitar, harmonica |
||
| Robertos violin dances with the finely woven carpet of tabla percussions to create a gentle music coloured with eastern flavours. The rarefied atmosphere is sustained by a solid flow of gently evolving rythm in relaxing and compelling sequences. The virtuoso performance of all the musicians involved never becomes protagonism and the result is a beautifully crafted work of total sincerity. Hints of blues merge seamlessly to create an altogether original and unusual blend of sounds. Meditative and lively at the same timeRoberto Manes music ranks with the finest in this genre, where jazz and ethnic traditions blend harmoniously. Phoenician Dreams is a compelling exploration of misterious soundscapes, music that takes the listener drifting to far away places as well as inner ones. This CD also features Rory Gallagher in is latest recording, made only a few months before he left us, a final testimony to this musician's fine sensitivity. _______________________________________________________________________ |
