The Stick & String quartet is a truly modern ensemble, somehow faithful to the traditional string quartet structure while incorporating jazz and contemporary dialects blended with traditional folklore. Particularly strong is the influence of balcanic, klezmer and gipsy melodies, with some hints of middle and far eastern atmospheres cropping up here and there. The S&S sound is often moody and melancholy, the execution always measured, carefully avoiding unnecessary solos and individual exhibitionism. The members of the band come from the most diverse experiences and belong to the same musical breed, open minded and exploratory musicians who can never resist the temptation of trying new avenues. These previous experiences can be read between the lines of the compositions and contribute to create a music that is rich and enjoyable, evocative and somewhat pictorial. _______________________________________________________________________

The third CD by the Stick & Stirng sees the addition of two new members, giving the band a new dimension and a fuller body. The mood remains in the vein of eastern ethnic roots, romantic string quartet structure and delicate jazz playing, the addition of a second violin deepens the voice of the strings ensemble while the sax adds a third, more energetic dimension and a warmer jazz slant. _______________________________________________________________________

This is the first work of the Orchestra Svoboda to be published on CD. The compositions are all original Svoboda tunes, some are derived from original folk tunes reinterpreted and mixed with other sources. Svoboda occupies that teritory where East meets West through the notes of the itinerant performers. They aim to follow the tracks of those gipsy musicians who transported seeds of different musical traditions across Europe. Form chamber music to the sound of village wedding party the Svoboda music can change from romantically moving to hilariously funny. An imaginative and densely emotional new music drawing inspiration from a variety of sources. The musicians come from a mixed background ranging from classical to jazz, from rock to ethnic. All these influences merge harmoniously in the Svoboda's music and are enhanced by a twisted sense of humor, resulting in a kind of music that is varied and full of surprises, _______________________________________________________________________
